因咬合肌肉和顳頷關節接受放射線治療影響，產生纖維化，導致有牙關較緊的情形。病人會有張嘴靈活度降低，張嘴的寬度減少的症狀，影響進食功能。
牙關緊閉與張口困難可在放射線治療中或治療後發生，其程度視接受的劑量及所產生的纖維化程度而定。
處理方法
- 在放射線治療過程中，不建議繼續配戴假牙。
- 治療期間保持張口運動。
預防牙關緊閉之方法
- 正常人口張開可容納 3 ~ 4 橫指的寬度，每日多回，每回多次，將嘴巴張大到最大程度，須注意避免用力過度，以防脫臼。
- 顎骨上、下張合及向左、右之運動。
- 可以用手或用壓舌板幫助張口，並經常測量上、下門齒間的距離，觀看進步情形。
- 治療中及治療後須做張嘴運動，並定期返診追蹤。
